Happy Halloween

Not much happened for me today because of work. I thought I would be able to catch a few trick or treaters once I got home, but my block was dead... Not one person was giving out candy. This year was wasted, I didn't dress up either. At least we had our movie month. So, I'll see you all back here in a month.

Rabbits

I've watched many Tim Burton films and have talked about it a lot, but there are other directors out there that do a lot of similar work and sometimes do much creepier work. When I was in college I was talking to someone that told me to look up a David Lynch film whenever I got the chance, I wrote it down and that was that. I had been wanting to look up one of his films for a while so I decided to do it today. I looked up David Lynch on YouTube to see what I could find, then I looked up David Lynch movies and one of the first films that popped up was Rabbits. I knew his films where supposed to be creepy, but I had no idea what else to expect. Based on the comments I saw on this video a lot of people, like me, didn't understand what was happening and thought that what they were watching had to do with the holocaust. I have no idea, but this film was boring and strange. I wouldn't watch it again, but I do want to look into his other work and see if there are better films. Rabbits is supposed to be like a 9 episode sitcom so maybe that's why it was so weird, but maybe a different one would make more sense to me. If you end up watching it let me know what you think about it and your interpretation of it.

Tomorrow is finally Halloween, I am going to be working so I won't get to celebrate it like most other people. I'll be back tomorrow with the last Blogoween of this year not with a movie, but with something else. Let me know what you plan on doing tomorrow.

Headless

Today I tried to get my brother to watch a scary movie with me since the Internet was actually working again. He decided on a movie we have seen a few times before, Sleepy Hollow.

This is another Tim Burton film which means it's a good one. It's about Icobod Crane looking for the murderer in a small town. He is sent there basically to be gotten ride of because he wants to figure out people's actual deaths. It's a good film, perfect to watch at night to make it a bit creepier.

Always

On Wednesdays I tend to hang out with my brother all day because we watch Supernatural together at night. When he came home from work I asked him if he would watch a horror movie with me and he actually agreed as long as he got to choose. He isn't a fan of horror movies so I thought this would be great. We actually went out and bought snacks before picking a film out. We came back home ready to chose the film and the internet didn't work...no Wi-Fi, no Netflix. So we decided to watch one of our own movies, one we have watched plenty of times. We had just watched the first film a few days ago so we watched the second one. It's one of our least favorite, but the small details complete the entire story. We watched Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

I love to watch Harry Potter films anytime throughout the year, it's great for all holidays and people.

Other than that my brother and I watch a lot of episodes of random shows, YouTube videos, stand up, and Arthur when we eat dinner. Speaking of I really want to be one of the characters from the show because it's a simple costume idea. All you would need is regular clothes, similar to the one the character wears and the ears for that character.

Anyways, it's Halloweek which means a lot of shows are doing their Halloween specials this week which are always good.

Rules

Today I watched Zombieland, which I tried to watch once before and didn't get a chance to finish.

It's a funny movie with zombies of course. The zombies may scare those that don't enjoy horror movies, but that's about it the rest of the movie has funny situations that includes the zombies. This was a good film and I would definetly watch it again. I would say to watch it even if you dislike zombie films at least for Bill Murray's appearance.

Dragged on

Today I watched The Omen. I had heard about it before, but I had never watched it. Now that I did I know that it's not for me. It was boring and it dragged on. The deaths of people were the only part that was so gross it made the movie a "horror" film, but there was nothing scary about it.

There was no resolution to the story which made this movie worse because I already felt like it was taking forever to get to the good point which didn't happen. I wouldn't watch this movie again and I don't want to look into the sequel either.

Missing Weekend

You probably noticed that I missed two days of Blogoween...I did watch a film on Friday, but I got called into work last minute and I didn't get to write about it. I basically worked Thrusday-Sunday (today) so I didn't get any time to post these last two days. Luckily I got out of work at a normal time today so I can do a recap of Friday's film. I watched Dark Shadows which I had never watched before, basically one of the only recent Tim Burton films I hadn't seen yet. I actually remember when it was being advertised and thinking it was a completely different type of movie from what it actually is.
My friend took a picture of me in front of the movie "poster" when we went to the movies once, I searched through my old Facebook posts and found the picture...

It was a good film, I hated the witch so much which shows how good of an actress and character she is. I would like to see why the ghost goes to the girl that he falls in love with and see more from her character. I don't think people wouldn't notice someone was a werewolf if they were a baby, babies can't hide that. Other than those few flaws it was good and I would watch it again.

Candy

I own Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I love it so much and I watch it a lot. I've never seen Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory so today I decided to watch it and see if there is a difference.

I still like the movie even though there are many differences with the one I own. There's singing, but instead of just the umpaloompas doing it other characters in the beginning sing too. The umpaloompas are of course different as well and are barely even seen in the film, whereas in the new version they are seen throughout the film and even in back stories. In this film Willy Wonka was much weirder and said random things, Johhny Depp's Wonka is weird, but because of his upbringing (which we actually get to see) we understand why he is the way he is. I know and say a lot of lines from the movie I have, but the only one I see here is "Violet, you're turning violet!", I love the new version because of the squirrels and the funny lines that come with that although I understand the golden eggs and how "a bad egg" can be just as funny as "a bad nut".
Overall the movie was good, but I like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory way better.

Creepy

Today I watched an Arabic film called Djinn. It's basically a messed up version of Rosmary's Baby.

I found it on Netflix and decided to watch it since the synopsis sounded good. Not much more to say about it other than it was good and it had its creep factor. It wasn't scary, but there were moments where I jumped.

I'm thinking about watching a kids movie next, but I have no idea what can be considered Halloween/ horror films, any suggestions?

Remake

Today I watched a remake of an old movie titled the same Evil Dead...

I actually watched the first few minutes of the older version this Sunday, but it stopped working so I gave up on it. Today I tried again and failed so I decided on this 2013 version of the film. I don't know how different it is from the older version. This film was basically a possession film and a few people dying because of it.  I started watching the movie in the morning by myself, but had to stop and later kept watching it with my brother. Watching a "scary" movie with other people is fun because of the commentary. Horror movies are great for people who like to talk to their TV and for those of us that don't because suddenly we all talk to the characters as if they can hear us.
The movie was okay, the gore and ugly faces were the best part.

Fail

Today I tried watching a scary movie I heard about a few years ago because of a remake, but it didn't work out. So, I decided to watch another movie and instead of being a horror movie it ended up being a lifetime type film (I was mislead). So, I watched a short film that comes out every year on tv, but I never watch it.

It's more of a Peanuts special and it's cute, but I don't get the hype. It is probably someone's tradition to watch every year and it's so short that it's fine to do. The only problem is I don't understand why things happen, like why does Charlie Brown keep getting rocks? If you know please tell me I'm very curious.

Hopefully tomorrow I can find the movie I originally planned to watch, and who knows I might watch both the old and new version.

Contenders

I don't think that I'm going to dress up this Halloween since I might be working that day, but I'm still thinking about what I would like to dress up as if I could. I might just do my makeup in the evening if I get out early enough so I can celebrate it someway. I found a few makeup looks (on Pinterest) I can try so I thought I would share...

Some villains, monsters, and mermaids...

And then I found a picture that contained things I already own and simple makeup, I think this ones a winner...
Yes I have feather earrings and extensions, I also have a beautiful old shirt that would look perfect with this "costume".

E.T.

Today I watched a movie I hadn't seen in a long time. E.T. is just as cute, creepy, and sad as it's ever been. It's a movie that you can watch no matter how good the graphics get and still feel like you are watching a recent film. Drew Barrymore is just as adorable as I remember and made the whole film what it is today.

The Boring Inn

Today I watched a bad movie, as in never watching it again movie. It was played out completely wrong and the acting was bad. It seemed as if they were trying to be funny at points with the writing/dialogue of the film, but failed. The parts in the movie where we were supposed to get scared were ruined by the sound fx and/or music. The movie I am talking about is THE HAPPY HOUSE.

There were points in the movie that were not even believable and they tried to confuse you about the innkeepers, but stopped at one point and brought in another story. If anyone has ever read the ghost story about the escaped convict they used that here and it sucked. The convict was crazy and they tried to show that by making him repeat phrases and in the end he's too dumb to even kill some of the characters.

This movie was boring, stupid, and not scary at all. Did I mention the bad characters and how unbelievable they were? Anyways, tomorrow I'm watching a classic I haven't seen in a while so as to not be disappointed.

Folklore

Today I watched a Norwegien film entitled THALE, which I randomly found on Netflix. The cover was what lured me in, I didn't even know what I was going to watch and that it was in a different language (subtitles to the rescue).

The movie wasn't anything special, not scary either. The only thing that came from this movie is a cool Scandonavian folklore about Huldra and a cool costume idea.

Not only would it be pretty, but creepy as well. There are a bunch of different pictures so it would be easy to make up your own costume the only important thing is the tail.

I wouldn't watch the movie again, but I would definetly like to see more of these creatures since they are similar to mermaids and wood nymphs.

Gross

This week I've been watching films I could easily find on Netflix. Today I looked through the horror section on Netflix and clicked on so many films that ended up leading me to a film called Contracted. The simple movie image made me want to watch it.

This movie isn't scary, it's gross. I'm going to admit something today about my weakness when watching these films, the only thing that freaks me out is when someone's nail is pulled off. This movie had that and more; I was cringing, covering the screen, and had stomach pains at certain points in this film. I wouldn't watch this film with other people, mostly because I look silly covering the screen when the nails come off. But also this film is about a girl who is practically raped and then because of that contracts a disease that turns her into a zombie. The beginning of the film "explains" why she would turn into a zombie just from that, like I said this movie is gross. I don't know if I would watch it again, but I would definetly look into the sequel.

You know an actor/actress is good when they can make you feel good/bad for the character they are playing.

Bad Children

Today's movie was CHILDREN OF THE CORN which I had never watched before. Those kids are just crazy to have done what they did, this is basically a cult classic (pun intended). I enjoyed the film and I don't have much to say about this other than what is up with that mist thingy. You don't really see any monsters just a bunch of teens who are going to regret what they did once they become "adults". I might have to look into the sequels, but I have no wish to ruin this film with what might be 5 or more sequels.

What!?!

Today I watched a movie that came out last year. The Babadook is about a boy that needs a spanking and a mom that lets him do whatever he wants. In the beginning of the film I thought exactly that, midway through the film I felt like the mom needed a good spanking, and by the end I was just done. This film isn't memorable to me, I literally just finished watching this and already forgot most of the film.
[my thoery]
I think the mom is just unable to function because of her past and her crappy family and she's just about had it and writes a book that might scare the crap out of her kid. It was the wrong approach when trying to discipline her kid. She places the book in his room for him to find and then because she's nuts she thinks her story is real and just makes her son's life a living nightmare.

If you watched or will watch this movie let me know what you think about this film and what happened in it.

The movie

When I grew up I watched a show that many have seen. Before it was a show there was a movie which came out a few days after I was born. I've always wanted to watch it, but never got to watch it. So, today I watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer...

It's not scary, obviously there are vampires, but it's actually supposed to be funny rather than scary. I enjoyed it and loved Pike and Buffy. Any movie made in the 80s/90s with a good excersise/fighting montage is always a great film. I now want to go out and buy some new clothes because of Buffy, a lot of what she wore then is actually my style (i.e. Flannel shirts, sneakers, doc matins instead of heals, etc.). Definetly a great film to watch no matter what year it is.

An original

Out of all of the Child's Play movies I feel like I only missed one, but then I saw this one on Netflix...

Which I had no idea about so not only have I not watched the 3rd part, but I also had this film to tackle. So, today I watched Curse of Chucky and if you haven't seen any of the other movies it's fine, the only other movies referenced where the first and fourth films. In other words Andy and Chucky's wife are mentioned, but not a big part of the plot.
I jumped once, but I knew it was coming because it's one of those classic horror movie scenes. It wasn't scary, not a lot of deaths, and it took around 45 minutes for Chunky to do his thing. It was good overall and I had no idea why they made this film and how it was relevant until Chucky himself explained it (poorly).

Yesterday I also watched The Corpse Bride with my brother, who had never seen it before. I thought I'd mention it since it is also a Halloween type film. Anything directed by Tim Burton is good so not much more to say, love the characters, the story, and the film.

Just a boat

The last movie in the Rec series, Rec 4: Acopolisis, took place in a ship. It worked with the storyline, but why a damn ship.

Not enough zombies in a ship...
The first zombie we encounter in this movie is around 30 minutes into the movie. The rest of the time it's a few zombies and a lot of trying to answer all the questions in the series. BUT there is no real resolution, the parasite that started it all never got killed and the ending was open enough for another film to be released one day. The film was fine, but I could have gone without this one. People get killed without explanation and no one ever does what needs to be done. I mean at one point in the film they could have easily chopped the parasite in half and ended it, but instead they killed off the character who was being possessed by it. And I actually liked that guy! Anyways, not a good ending to this series, but that's probably because sometime in the near future there will be a Rec 5 that is probably going straight to DVD or Netflix.

The Backstory

*** Spoilers***

Today I watched Rec 3: Genesis, it was basically the first epidemic that started it all. In the first film we learn about a dog being infected and how the vet reported it which caused the building that the dog came from to be closed up. This movie shows what happened to the vet on a very special day.
It was basically the Romeo and Juliet of zombies. I enjoyed it, but the fact that people from the government know about this so quickly and act on it so fast is just unbelievable. It was a good movie and it made contributions to the past two films, it made us see how the priest in the second film came to be and then the dog and the vet situation was also seen in this film. I think what made this movie better was the way it was shot, the beginning is basically footage for the wedding video and after a few minutes it's actually shot cinematically no more "found footage".

The only problem with this series is the demon possession storyline. How is one demon in all of these people? We see the "demon" woman in question in the past two films, but we still don't know how this all works. We also see her in this film, possessing the people (in reflections). Hopefully it gets resolved in the next (and final) film.

Not a Zombie!?!

After watching the first part of this movie I researched how many movies where left to watch and saw that there were 4 movies in this series and that this movie inspired the Quarantine movies (basically the English version). So since the first film left you wondering what happened to a character and to the building she was in, I decided to watch the second one today. And questions where answered, but now we have more characters who we are left wondering about. So, I will be looking into the next two films in these upcoming days (they are on Nexflix).

Rec 2 wasn't scary, watching it during the day versus at night (with headphones) changes that. I watched it without subtitles and I still got what was happening although I didn't understand some of the characters' dialog at times. I wouldn't watch these movies again, but I will continue with them since I am already invested in them and they aren't horrible.

The Witches

The Witches is a film that came out two years before I was born, but the costumes and graphics are so good. The movie was good, but to much talking and not scary at all. The witches makeup was awesome and there are so many costume ideas that came from watching this movie.
It started raining again today so I got under the covers and watched this movie. This is the best weather for these types of films or any film actually. I don't know if I would watch this movie again, but it's a movie I can now reference and know about. I had seen images of this movie before so now I'm familiar with it and I will understand where the images come from.

It's more of a family film than anything else. So if you want to introduce preteens to these kinds of films I would definetly show them this, they can only get scared once since the makeup is so good. The head witch has the best makeup and she's the one to watch out for when sharing this film with younger kids.

Hopefully more scary movies to come in the next few days, we shall see...

Rec

Last night I got home from work and hung out with my nephews (who slept over all weekend) and niece for a while. I thought I wouldn't be able to watch a movie because I also watch a TV show on Sundays. During the commercial breaks I looked for movies that might be around 60 minutes long and I found a film that was around 78 minutes. The film was yet again a self recorded type film appropriately titled [rec] and it was in Spanish. It's not hard to follow along without the subtitles, but if you don't know Spanish (or if thick accents make it hard to understand what is being said) then there are subtitles in the film that can help you out. There is a lot of yelling in this film so sometimes subtitles are the best form of figuring out what every character is saying. It was a good film to watch if you want a scary film to watch last minute.

***Spoilers***
This is a zombie/outbreak film. These kinds of films are great especially if you have a great imagination and start wondering what it would be like to be in that kind of situation and figuring out if you would survive.
***End of Spoilers***

It rained yesterday and it actually felt more like fall so once I finished watching the movie I took a nice hot shower which made me sleepy so I didn't get to write about the film last night. Because of that expect another post later on today where I watch the film I originally planned to watch yesterday. Also, let me know if you want a calendar of the films I plan to watch this week. Otherwise, I might not post a calendar and I'll surprise you with the films I watch each day.

Wow!

I work weekends so, I didn't know if I would be able to watch a film, but I did. I choose an "old" movie that I never got to see, but was always interested in. Cloverfield (2008) is a "found footage" type film about a monster that destroys Manhattan. And as the title of this post suggests, it was awesome. It wasn't scary, but it was intense and I liked that.

**Spoilers**
I don't even mind that they didn't add an explanation of the monster at the end of the film because it leaves it to your imagination. I think the monster was a praying mantis, but I can be wrong. I also liked how it ended because it was a funny little clip that just made the movie that much better.
**Spoilers end**

I would definetly watch it again, maybe with some friends or family because I want to see their reaction and interpretation of the monster. It was a short movie so there was no time to get bored. And since the movie was short, so is this post. Not much more to report.

Not so Scary

I've had a picture of a movie cover in my icloud for a while from a trip to Mexico, I tend to find a lot of movies I want to watch, but then just end up documenting them in order to look them up once I have an internet connection. This movie cover had three different movies in it and so I had no idea which one I had been interested in so I looked up the first movie which doesn't translate well from English to Spanish so after watching a trailer on YouTube I found out what the movie was, but IMBD told me it was actually titled Grave Halloween, a Syfy original movie.

As the trailer above suggests this movie is about the Suicide Forrest located in Japan and a girl's journey to find her mother. There are two camera angles at the beginning of this film because it is supposed to be a documentary about the girl for a class project. Once everyone realizes that going there was a bad idea they stop filming. There are a lot of "dead bodies" and death scenes in this movie so if that isn't your thing don't watch. If you want to see a movie that isn't scary then watch this movie, it was made for TV so maybe that's why it isn't the typical scary movie. Although it still has that stereotypical scary monster. Side-note, why are Asian "monsters" always pale face and long black oily hair characters? Anyways, it was an okay film, but I would not watch it again because of the story.

***SPOILER RANT***
The character goes to find her mother in order to give her spirit peace, but the only thing that happens is a creepy looking woman comes back to life and kills the surviving friends of her daughter. We also learn that the main character has a sister and her mother killed her and the flashback of that is a quick and dumb explanation of how and when it happened in the main characters life. It felt like they were just trying to end the movie and had no idea how to do it.
***SPOILER RANT OVER***

So, no I wouldn't re-watch this film and I didn't enjoy it as much as I would like towards the end because the story didn't really get resolved. There were little details added into the movie that they didn't talk about at the end. Although like I said they tried to finish the film so quickly that at one point the box the main character had the entire time was just left in the forest and not mentioned again. This box (and its contents) were brought up throughout the film and then it was abandoned meaning we never figure out who it actually belonged to and the meaning of its contents.

Tomorrow I might be watching a film that a lot of people became sick from watching because of its filming style, so look forward to that. It might change though because I work tomorrow and might not have time to watch a movie. We shall see...

Dracula's Hotel

For the first day of Blogoween I decided to watch a children's film that is currently playing their sequel in theaters. I had never watched the first film so I decided to do it now. The film I'm talking about is Hotel Transylvania.

I had no idea what the movie was going to be about, but I knew that it had a variety of monsters in it. This was a cute movie and would be nice to watch with children, but I wouldn't watch it again by myself. It was funny at points, but I expected that once I saw the cast members of this film. The characters were great, but the story was just okay. The sequel looks adorable as well, but it looks like the same story line is going to be used (i.e. Dracula keeping his daughter from leaving).

I might have not liked the movie as much because I saw the trailer for Hotel Transylvania 2 and already knew the outcome to the first one based on what I saw. At least I got this movie out of the way and now I know what I was missing by not watching it. The next few movies will not be animated so get ready for those.

Claymation!

It's been a really long day, I hung out with my nephews for a few minutes this morning and then went to work. I didn't get to watch a movie today so instead I wanted to share the video that made me want to start Blogoween, it's short and very good...
FOXED!

I also wanted to share a few movie trailers. These are movies that I plan to watch once Blogoween ends since some of theses don't come out until after.

Crimson Peak

Goosebumps

The boy

Krampus

There are more, but these are some movies that can be seen during this time of year and considered Halloween movies.

I might end up writing Halloween related posts this weekend and the following two since I work weekends and I can't really watch movies those days. I hope that's okay with you guys, until tomorrow...
Mabel

Trick 'r Treat

Last night I watched a movie named "trick 'r treat" and it was awesome, but it left so many questions unanswered (I want more from this world). It seems as if there are a bunch of comics that this film came from so I might look into that. If I find a sequel or a series of this film I will definitely watch them. And I will be looking into more films by Michael Dougherty.

~~>Actually I found the DC book that came from this film and according to IMDB there will be a sequel. The director/writer of this film made a short animated film that this movie derived from and I actually found it on YouTube...
I loved the character seen in the short and in the actual movie. I love well thought out characters and although we didn't get the backstory to "Sam" there are many points in the movie where you feel like you understand where he came from.
I love characters like Freddy Kruger, Michael Myers, Chucky... the classics! This character would be a great character for a series of movies similar to the Crypt Keeper (which this movie had a similarity to).
This is one of those movies that I would come back and watch every year as a Halloween tradition. This film has a lot of deaths so if you don't like those kind of films (which I will post a lot of because Halloween) then just know that going into this.

So, tomorrow I officially begin this year's Blogoween Movie Marathon and I just wanted to say that there will be a mix of Halloween movies, children/family and horror. I might watch movies in Spanish if I find any good ones, but at the moment I haven't found any. I know what films I plan to watch the next two days, but that might change because of work so I won't say what movies I plan on watching on what days (i.e. a calendar) until Sunday/Monday. I plan to make a weekly type calendar each week of what movie I plan to watch on what day, just to have a scheduled plan and something to look forward to.

I want to say more, but have no idea what I want to say, as seen above :/ so I'll stop here.

Blogoween?

I've been MIA for a while now and if you read my blog then you know that I started working. Well, I've been working on again off again and am looking for another job at the moment. The main reason why I am coming back is because Halloween is just around the corner and I wanted to start blogging again so why not combine both Halloween and my blog.

I wasn't sure if I would do the same thing I did these past two years during Christmas, but I was sure I wanted to do something. And then I decided that since I am still working and want down time when I am home I would do a daily movie. In other words I would do a countdown to Halloween here on my blog, but in a way were we could interact together. So everyday I want to watch one horror movie or Halloween type film and post about it here on my blog so that each day anyone can watch it along with me.

I graduated from college having watched a few films because of my major, but I haven't seen EVERYTHING and I really want to do that when it comes to this genre. For example today I watched a movie I had heard about in different parts of the internet and had gotten curious about. I had no idea what it was about other than a "trailer" I found on YouTube. The movie wasn't exactly for me, but at least now I know that it isn't a movie I will see again and at least now I understand the references to the film.

What I plan to do is pick a movie that is either new to me or one I already enjoy and watch it. One movie each day leading up to Halloween. I plan to let all of my readers here know about my pick of the day so that we can watch it that same day and possibly live tweet about it with a hashtag or something. (help me come up with a hashtag) Possibly #mabelsmovie or #blogoweenmovie or something shorter than those. I might not watch a movie every single day until Halloween, but I really want to and if I'm not busy I will. I would also appreciate it if you left a comment with any movie recommendations on this post and I'll check back in order to choose a few for future Blogoweens. Should that be a thing #blogoween, it's probably been done.

Let me start with the movie I watched today. Here is the trailer I mentioned...
I had seen pictures and read fun facts about this movie, but had no idea what it was about other than the magic part which you can see in the trailer. So I decided to watch it and since it is a Disney original movie I had a feeling it was going to be cheesy, but it wasn't just cheesy it was annoying. The main girl in particular and the story line was just bad. Who knows I might have to look into the sequel; it might be better than the first one, although that rarely happens. Oh sorry I'm talking about a movie I haven't yet introduced, this movie is called Halloweentown and it seems like the title of this movie is the only awesome part.

Anyways I'll try not to spoil any of the movies I watch because I hate when that happens, but I will try and give you my thoughts afterwards. It might be hard to get a hold of these movies at times, but with the internet you can find loads of places to rent them if you want to participate with me. Also, try going to your local library and finding copies there although it might be hard to watch along with me if you do that. Anyways I just wanted to start doing something fun on my blog especially since I am so excited for Halloween, am I the only one? I'm always excited about things months before I should be. For the first few posts I'll try to watch the movies before writing a blog post in order to give you guys an idea of what will happen in October. I might not start doing this daily until then, but I might be making a calendar with movies on each day in order to let you know ahead of time. I hope this is a fun idea and you come back and check for what movie I plan to watch.

Charlie, Presumed Dead | Book Review

In Paris, family and friends gather to mourn the tragic passing of Charlie Price—young, handsome, charming, a world-traveler—who is presumed dead after an explosion. Authorities find only a bloodied jacket, ID’d as Charlie’s. At the funeral, two teens who are perfect strangers, Lena Whitney and Aubrey Boroughs, make another shocking discovery: they have both been dating Charlie, both think Charlie loved them and them alone, and there is a lot they didn’t know about their boyfriend. Over the next week, a mind-bending trip unfolds: first in London—then in Mumbai, Kerala, and Bangkok, the girls go in search of Charlie. Is he still alive? What did their love for him even mean? The truth is out there, but soon it becomes clear that the girls are harboring secrets of their own.
*CAUTION: SPOILERS*

I went into this book thinking it was going to be a great book and was disappointed. It was badly written. The character development was bad. It got annoying because we were not aware of the secrets the girls were keeping and once we found out they didn't seem like a big deal. The ending was horrible and I would hate to think that there is a second book because everything could have been resolved in this book. This book was slow it would have been better to have given us everything in this book instead of something that felt like the beginning of a very boring chase, between two girls that don't even love the man they are chasing. Speaking of the two girls, they just met and act like they have known each other their whole lifetime. It is a very annoying book. I gave it 3 stars, but I might have to bump it down to 2.  I did get this book months ahead of the release date so I am hoping that it was a rough cut of the actual book, if so I would like to see the finished product and see if the ending changes. If the author made some changes then this book will be better. The overall story and minor details are good, but I hated the writing and the way the characters acted around each other.
This book comes out next week June 2, 2015.

OOTD: The Babysitter's Club

Hello everyone!
Sorry for last week's late post, it was a scheduled post and there was a weird glitch.
Anyway, I have been helping my mom babysit since last week so yesterday I decided to wear a comfy outfit. Also, I have been participating in a few readathons so I wanted to be comfortable while I read. I usually seek comfort in my clothes anyways, so this outfit is something similar to what I usually always wear. So here is what I wore yesterday...
The shirt was brand new from Walmart, it was supposed to be around $9, but at the check out it was reduced to $5. The pants were given to me by my mom last year and they are super comfortable. The shoes are actually two sizes too big (originally my sister's shoes), but they are my go to right now.

My nephews came over last night, so my nephew took these pictures for me. He thinks it's fun, so why not take a few right. Plus, it's been a long time since I shared an outfit post.

Let me know what you'd like to see me post about in the comments below.
Until next time,
Mabel

Book Review: This is Sadie

Sadie is a little girl with a big imagination. She has been a girl who lived under the sea and a boy raised by wolves. She has had adventures in wonderland and visited the world of fairytales. She whispers to the dresses in her closet and talks to birds in the treetops. She has wings that take her anywhere she wants to go, but that always bring her home again. She likes to make things -- boats out of boxes and castles out of cushions. But more than anything Sadie likes stories, because you can make them from nothing at all. For Sadie, the world is so full of wonderful possibilities ... This is Sadie, and this is her story.

This was a quick read since it is a children's book. I decided to read it to my nephews to get the input from its targeted audience. I filmed they're rating so click the video below to see what they rated it.

For those who are planning to read the book to someone, the book is a quick read and the pictures are great. There isn't much of a story, but the overall idea of the book is cute. It's the perfect book to introduce books into a children's world.
I gave this book a 3 out of 5 because the message was simple and I liked that, but there was no actual story.

If you are in need of new books for your children this book is out Tuesday, May 12, 2015.

*I received a digital copy of the book through NetGalley for review. I am not sponsored by anyone and all opinions are my own.*

Cinco de Mayo

Hello Everyone and Happy Cinco de Mayo!
That was me in elementary school in one of our Cinco de Mayo celebrations. It used to be so fun we used to dance according to what grade we were in and dress up for it and after everyone danced we had a small sort of carnival where we could win prizes. I actually won a goldfish once during Cinco de Mayo, it died a few days afterwards and I buried it in my backyard, but I thought it was cool. In fifth grade we got a new principal and the festivities just weren't the same anymore, after elementary school the day just wasn't celebrated the same way. I'm not sure if my school district is the only one that went all out to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, but I would like to know if anyone experienced any similar festivities wherever you grew up and went to school.

Cinco de Mayo is just one of the many events I enjoyed celebrating in school. It was one of those holidays everyone participated in, but didn't really understand. So, for those who don't celebrate it, but hear about it through social media all you need to know is that it is not Mexico's Independence Day (that's actually in September).

Another special day that is coming up this weekend is Mother's Day (American/Mexican) so I would like to say an early Happy Mother's Day to my readers. My niece is going to be 1 year old this weekend as well so that's going to be another celebration. This month is full of celebrations that I haven't even mentioned yet and I can't wait.

My Wardrobe Idea

Hello Everyone!
Today I wanted to share something I am currently doing and sort of shared on Twitter a few days ago:
I share a small closet space with my sister, or rather she shares it with me since she's older, and my closet is always packed with clothing most of which I don't wear. I decided that instead of buying new clothes, I would just use up what I have in my closet and slowly throw things away based on how torn up they are or get. I already threw away a few of my leggings because they ripped (they always rip in the most awkward spot). So now I only have a few comfy pants and then of course my jeans which I don't really wear since it's hot and I'm just home all day. I have a lot more shirts than pants in my closet, but I am also planning to throw out or give away shirts that I don't wear. Since my closet is so small I just want to keep my everyday basics in there. I might have a little cleaning session tomorrow to make my closet space look smaller.
Once I use up all the clothes (or almost all) I currently have I plan on buying essentials and actually being picky about what I buy. I want to pick things I would actually pick out on a regular basis and wear it without thinking twice. I want to finally have a style and not just be all over the place with my wardrobe. I already know some things I like wearing for example stripes, black, and soft fabrics.
Next on my list is a "wish list" of clothes I like so that I could narrow down my style and what type of clothes I should buy after a while.

Hourly updates for Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon {April 2015}

I am participating in Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon this year (this is the first of two) and this year I have decided to post hourly updates on this blog post and use my twitter account just like last year for updates in between. Here are a few things you might want to know.
  • There will be hourly updates on here and I will post updates on twitter as well. (This will be my update post for the entire read-a-thon).
  • I probably won't be up for 24 hours - I will try though. But my plan is to stay awake for as long as I can.
  • Based on my location I start reading at 5am, to figure out other start times go to this link: http://24hourreadathon.com/start-times/
  • Even though this post goes up at the start of the read-a-thon I won't update until after the hour in which I personally start the read-a-thon.
  • There is a slight possibility that I will be working on this day, but I don't figure out until the night before so check my twitter feed @friendlvr, Friday around 6pm (Pacific Time)  to figure out if I will be working.
    • If I do work on Saturday I will have to start the read-a-thon later since I can't read while at work. If I have to work Sunday then I might have to finish reading early in order to get some sleep. [I will announce if I am free all weekend on twitter.]
  • If I don't update during a certain hour assume I'm no where near a WiFi connection or a computer, I will update what I did during those hours once I get a chance (this might happen at the beginning of the read-a-thon because of prior engagements). Again check my Twitter account where I will let you know any moment I plan to go somewhere (AFK).

I posted an April TBR on YouTube (which has changed a bit) but in case you don't follow me on YouTube I will post it here too:

Hour 22-24

I finished reading a book in less than 24 hours which is an accomplishment for me since I'm a slow reader (as you can tell) so for the last 3 hours of the read-a-thon I'm going to sleep.
So goodnight, actually Good morning... Wherever you are I hope you had as much fun as me during the read-a-thon and see you later this year for the second Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon of the year.
